Blazing West was a Western comic anthology series published in the United
States, blending action, adventure, and frontier stories set in the American Old
West. It ran for about 20 issues from 1948 to 1951 and featured recurring
characters and short comic tales inspired by cowboy lore. The series included
heroes like Injun Jones (a friend of the Apache tribe), Buffalo Belle (a fiery
female gunfighter), Bantam Buckaroo (a small but explosive cowboy), Texas Tim,
Ranger, Tenderfoot, and The Hooded Horseman, a mysterious Lone Ranger–style
hero.
Blazing West appeared during the post-World War II era, when
Western fiction and comics were incredibly popular in American culture — spurred
by movies, radio dramas, and pulp fiction celebrating the romanticized Old West.
Genres like Western comics offered readers heroes, adventure, and frontier
myth-making.
