Hand of Fate was an American pulp fiction magazine best known for its horror,
fantasy, and supernatural stories. Though short-lived, it is remembered as part
of the final wave of classic pulp magazines.
Hand of Fate specialized in
dark, suspenseful fiction, including horror and macabre tales, supernatural and
occult stories, weird fantasy and psychological suspense.
The magazine
followed the pulp tradition of fast-paced storytelling, shocking twists, and
grim or ironic endings. Its tone was often darker and more unsettling than
mainstream adventure pulps.
First published 1951, last issue 1952, total
issues - 5. Publisher: Popular Publications
Hand of Fate emerged at a
time when pulp magazines were declining, facing competition from paperbacks,
television, and comic books. Despite its short run, it attracted attention for
its high-quality writing and for publishing stories by notable authors of
speculative and horror fiction, including Robert Bloch, H. Russell Wakefield,
and Chester S. Geier.
